Overview

Please note: If you upgrade this datapack from 1.19 or below to 1.20, the textures from the old items don't work anymore. This is happening because the CustomModelData of all items have changed, making my datapacks more compatible with datapacks from other creators.
More Food is a Datapack for Minecraft 1.16 up to 1.21. This Datapack adds new food that can be made through crafting or using a Fridge. The fridge is built by players and requires various components. These components are explained under 'Kitchen Set (-1.20) & Fridge'. The new types of food include Fruit Salad, Nether Salad, Golden Sweet Berries, Pumpkin Soup, Pancakes, Forager's Bucket, Frozen Apple, Ice Cream, Chorus Cone, and Small Dragon Egg. It also allows soups and stews to be stacked up to 16 and enables you to eat glistering melon slices.
This Datapack requires a Resource Pack to properly render all the items. The Datapack also works well with another Datapack made by me: Wolf Gifts. A wolf with a green collar can give you a Fruit Salad as a gift, and a wolf with a red collar can give you a Nether Salad.

Vanilla Changes

There have been a few changes in vanilla Minecraft for this datapack. All soups and stews are now stackable to 16 (instead of 1), and glistering melon slices are now edible ( + 10 saturation ).

Kitchen Set (-1.20) & Fridge

In 1.20 and earlier, you needed a Kitchen Set to make all the items. This was the case because you couldn't yet create crafting recipes where components were incorporated into the result. From 1.21 onwards, the Kitchen Set is no longer needed, but to build it, you needed the following:

  • Dropper (Facing downwards)
  • Pressure Plate (Any type)

With a Kitchen Set, you could make Fruit Salad, Golden Sweet Berries, Golden Fruit Salad, Pumpkin Soup, Pancakes, Nether Pancakes, and Forager's Bucket. To make these items, you had to throw the correct ingredients onto the pressure plate. The items would then end up in the Dropper. Note: if you stored something in the Dropper, it could disappear when you made a new item. If the Kitchen Set didn't work, you had to stand right next to the Kitchen Set.

To make a Fridge, place the following:

  • Dispenser
  • Ice, Packed Ice, or Blue Ice
  • Birch Door (Placed directly against the ice)

With a Fridge, you can make Chorus Cone, Frozen Apple, and Ice Cream. You can place a maximum of 1 item in a slot, allowing you to freeze nine items simultaneously. Blue Ice provides the shortest waiting time, 20 seconds. Next is Packed Ice, which takes 45 seconds, and finally regular ice with 1 minute. After each batch, there is a 1/8 chance that Blue Ice will turn into Packed Ice, and Packed Ice into regular ice.
In 1.20 or earlier, you had to surround the ingredient with ice and wait a short time. When your item was ready, you would see it in the action bar. Not working? Stand closer to the Fridge.

Items

A Fruit Salad ( + 6 saturation ) is made with all fruits and a bowl. You can stack it up to 16, just like the other stews, soups, and salads.

Golden Sweet Berries ( + 9.6 saturation ) can be crafted like Golden Carrots and Glistering Melon Slices. They give you the Speed I and Resistance I status effects for 1 minute.
1.20 and earlier: throw a gold ingot and sweet berries on the kitchen set to obtain Golden Berries.

Pumpkin Soup ( + 9.6 saturation ) is comparable to Cooked Salmon. You can stack it up to 16, just like the other soups, stews, and salads.
1.20: throw a bowl, pumpkin, and iron nugget on the kitchen set to make Pumpkin Soup.

Pancakes ( + 4 saturation ) are not necessarily meant as a go-to food item, similar to cake, cookies, and pumpkin pies in the vanilla game.
1.20: throw wheat, sugar, and a milk bucket on the kitchen set to get Pancakes.

The Nether Salad ( + 6 saturation ) can be made with foragable items in the Nether, providing an additional food source while in the Nether. It is stackable up to 16, like the other soups, stews, and salads.

1.20: Instead of Nether Salads, there were Nether Pancakes. You had to throw Nether Wart, Sugar, and Magma Cream on a kitchen set to make these.

The Forager's Bucket ( + 7.2 saturation ) is a very flexible crafting recipe, requiring 1 type of berries, 1 type of roots, and 1 type of sea plants. It is stackable up to 16, just like all other stews, soups, and salads.
1.20: throw crimson and warped roots, glow berries, and kelp on a kitchen set to make Forager's Bucket.

Ice Cream ( + 14.4 saturation ) can be made in a fridge by placing a milk bucket in one of the slots. It gives you 5 seconds of Slowness II. It is a strategic food item best eaten when nearly full to gain an extra saturation boost.

In 1.20 and earlier, you had Flesh as a food item. You had to surround 4 rotten flesh with ice and wait 30 seconds.

Chorus Cone ( + 7.2 saturation ) can be made in a fridge by placing a chorus fruit in one of the slots. Chorus Cones do not teleport you.

A Frozen Apple ( + 2.4 saturation ) can be made in a fridge by placing an apple in one of the slots. This can be eaten twice as quickly as normal food and gives you one and a half seconds of Regeneration IV. It's handy food for when you're in a tough situation and need a quick few extra hearts.

Each Ender Dragon will drop a Small Dragon Egg ( + 14.4 saturation ) after it has been defeated. This will occur at the spot where it reaches 0 HP, not necessarily at the portal. It takes twice as long to eat as normal food. If you eat one, you get 1-3 rolls from this loot table:

  • Ender Pearl (2-10)
  • Shulker Shell (1-3)
  • Elytra
  • Chorus Fruit (15-19)
  • Chorus Flower (1-3)

Trivia

This was my first Datapack

The idea from this Datapack came from this Dutch video of Tijd4Creative, where I created cheese and a Fruit Salad in Minecraft.

Pumpkin Soup came from a stream of Nemagor, when I created a datapack for him that included Pumpkin Soup.

1.21 is such a big update for More Food, because 1.20.5 brought new item components in which you can change food values and stack sizes. The update also enables you to add components to crafting recipe results, which is why the Kitchen Set had no more purpose.

Chorus Cones previously were part of another datapack, which I never released, called 'Untitled Datapack'.

The Cold Small Dragon Egg and Golden Salad have been removed because Minecraft can't detect components in crafting table ingredients.
