Mob Totems

A Mob Totem is a combination of blocks on top of each other that spawn a certain mob in the north axis. The first two blocks are purpur blocks. The third block spawns the mob. If the third block is grass for example, it will spawn a cow. A magma block spawns a magma cube. There are 18 mobs that you can spawn in total.

It would be handy to check the list of blocks that spawn mobs before you go play with it in survival mode. This is because not all mobs are passive.

If you stand on the third block of the totem, the block below you will disappear, to prevent you to spawn an infinite amount of mobs out of one block. Don't worry: you'll get a part of the block back. Mossy Cobblestone will turn into cobblestone and a magma block gives you magma cream back and so on. More info can be found on the list of totems.

Bugs

  1. The Mob Totems only spawn the mobs into the north
  2. The Mobs also spawn if you hover above the block in Creative Mode

Totems

Below is a list of the blocks that spawn the mobs. Other blocks do not work for Mob Totems.
